The Bengals today re-signed unrestricted free agent DE Joseph Ossai to a one-year contract for the 2025 season.
Ossai, a fifth-year player, originally was a third-round draft pick of the Bengals in 2021. He has played in 47 regular-season games with three starts for Cincinnati, and recorded 73 tackles, seven TFLs, 9.5 sacks, three PDs, two FFs and two FRs. He also has seen action in three postseason contests and has six tackles along with two PDs.
The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive end Joseph Ossai to a one-year contract for the 2025 season, securing a key piece of their defensive front for another year. Ossai, a promising young talent, has shown considerable upside since being drafted by the Bengals in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. His re-signing is seen as a significant move for the team as they continue to strengthen their defensive line for the upcoming season.
Ossai, who spent most of his rookie season recovering from an injury, made his presence known in 2022 and 2023 with his relentless energy and pass-rushing ability. Although still in the early stages of his career, he has steadily developed into a valuable rotational player, contributing on the edge as a pass rusher and helping to disrupt opposing offenses. Throughout his first three seasons, Ossai has shown flashes of being a game-changer, though he’s yet to fully break out into a consistent starter.
During the 2023 season, Ossai posted solid numbers, recording several sacks and tackles for loss while playing behind established starters like Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard. He proved that he can be a versatile player in the Bengals’ defensive scheme, capable of lining up at various spots and offering depth at the position. The Bengals’ defensive line is one of the team’s strongest units, and Ossai’s ability to rotate in and out allows the Bengals to keep their starters fresh while maintaining a high level of pressure on the quarterback.
The re-signing of Ossai is also a smart move as the Bengals are looking to build long-term depth at the position. While the Bengals continue to invest in other areas of their roster, keeping Ossai for the 2025 season ensures that the team has a solid contributor on the defensive line without breaking the bank. This move allows Cincinnati to continue its pursuit of playoff contention, as they remain a serious contender in the AFC with one of the league’s most talented defenses.
Overall, re-signing Joseph Ossai for the 2025 season helps solidify the Bengals’ defensive depth while maintaining flexibility for future roster moves. His development will be key to the team’s long-term success as they continue to build around a strong defense to complement their potent offense.
