According to reports, AC Milan will activate Joshua Zirkzee’s €40 million release clause in an attempt to recruit the

Bologna striker before Arsenal does this summer.

Zirkzee is one of the Gunners’ summer transfer window targets as they want to strengthen their offensive options

ahead of the 2024–25 campaign.

After 58 appearances for the Italian club, the 23-year-old Dutchman has contributed 14 goals and 9 assists, and it

appears that he will be joining one of the best teams in Europe.

Zirkzee was being watched by more than only AC Milan and Arsenal; clubs like Manchester United and Inter Milan

were also interested in signing him.

However, based on recent rumors, AC Milan appears to be ahead of the pack. Bologna has been informed that AC

Milan will now fulfill his €40 million release clause.

Once the money is paid, AC Milan won’t have to bargain with Bologna, but they are still trying to come to an

individual terms agreement with Zirkzee and his representative.

Zirkzee is reportedly eager to stay in Italy, which gives AC Milan the upper hand over Arsenal and United. The

Rossoneri also acted more quickly than Inter, their city rivals.

Inter will be hoping that negotiations fall through even if AC Milan is leading the race so they can sneak up on their

rivals and sign Zirkzee.

Javier Zanetti, vice president of Inter, recently remarked, “Zirkzee is a great champion.”

“Any outstanding team striving for significant objectives would benefit from having someone like that.”

Zirkzee was a candidate to play for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 this summer,

but Ronald Koeman’s preliminary team did not select him.

In August 2022, he signed a €8.5 million contract to join Bologna from Bayern Munich. Although the German team

has the option to buy him back, they have not indicated that they plan to exercise it this summer.
