American Former Professional Football QB Matt Ryan Returns as Assistant Coach to Push Falcons for NFC South Title

FULL STORY:

ATLANTA – In a move that has thrilled fans and energized the locker room, former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is returning to the team—not under center, but on the sidelines. The longtime face of the franchise has been named Assistant Coach, tasked with helping guide the team back to prominence and push for the NFC South title.

Ryan, who retired in 2023 after a storied career, including an MVP season and a Super Bowl appearance, had been working as a broadcaster. But sources say his heart never left the field—or the Falcons. “Atlanta is home,” Ryan said at the press conference announcing his return. “I’ve always believed in this organization, and now I want to help this team win in a new way.”

Head Coach Raheem Morris called Ryan’s addition “invaluable,” highlighting his football IQ and leadership. “He knows this system, he knows the grind, and more than anything, he knows what it takes to win,” Morris said.

Ryan will work closely with the quarterbacks and offensive staff, mentoring second-year QB Desmond Ridder and helping fine-tune the team’s aerial attack. “To have Matt in the room—it’s like having another set of elite eyes,” Ridder said. “He’s already challenging us to think deeper and play smarter.”

With a strong defense, rising stars on offense, and now one of the most respected minds in franchise history on the sidelines, the Falcons are poised to make a serious run at the NFC South title. And with Matt Ryan back in the building, hope is soaring once again in Atlanta.
