Married at First Sight expert shares reason why she’d leave show after 16 seasons
After more than a decade of helping hopeful couples navigate love on reality TV, Married at First Sight expert Mel Schilling has revealed what continues to drive her passion for the series — and the one reason she would consider stepping away.
Mel, who has become a familiar face to fans of both the UK and Australian versions of the hit show, has now featured in an impressive 16 seasons. Her career with the franchise spans 11 seasons in Australia and five in the UK, making her one of the longest-serving experts in the global format.
Speaking about her enduring role, Mel explained that the variety of people and relationships keeps the show fresh year after year. “Every season is so different, and that’s what keeps me coming back,” she said. Her expertise as a romance coach has guided dozens of participants through the highs and lows of marrying a stranger on screen.
Mel revealed that she is preparing to return to Australia later this year to film the next instalment of the series. The crossover between the UK and Australian versions has only strengthened her bond with the show, as she continues to be part of some of its most memorable and talked-about storylines.
Reflecting on her long tenure, Mel admitted that her passion lies in seeing participants transform, whether they leave with a lasting partner or simply learn more about themselves. “It’s incredible,” she said, pointing out that the diversity of experiences makes each cast unique.
However, Mel also admitted there may come a point when she decides to walk away. She suggested that the only reason she would leave is if she no longer felt challenged or inspired by the process. For now, though, she remains fully committed and energised by her work on the show.
The expert has become a household name among MAFS fans, often praised for her mix of warmth, insight, and straight-talking advice. Her role has been pivotal in shaping how viewers connect with the experiment, as she helps couples navigate trust, conflict, and intimacy.
With both UK and Australian versions continuing to dominate ratings and spark global conversations, Mel’s presence on the show looks set to continue. But her candid reflection is a reminder that even those guiding others through relationships must constantly reassess their own passions and purpose.
