Meshuggah’s Jens Kidman Opens Up About Overcoming Personal Struggles During the Band’s Most Intense Tour.

In an exclusive interview, Meshuggah’s frontman Jens Kidman has revealed the personal struggles he endured during what he describes as the band’s most physically and emotionally taxing tour. Known for their technical brilliance and relentless touring schedule, Meshuggah’s global tours are an immersive experience for fans, but Kidman’s latest revelations shed light on the often-overlooked toll the road takes on the members of the band.

Kidman, 54, disclosed that he faced significant mental and emotional challenges during the tour in support of their 2024 album *Ineffable Realms*. “There were times when I felt like I was losing myself,” Kidman shared. “Touring can be brutal. It’s not just about the shows – it’s the constant travel, the isolation, the pressure to perform at your best every night. At one point, I was battling serious burnout, and I had to confront it head-on.”

Despite the intensity of the experience, Kidman found strength in his bandmates. “We’re more than just a band – we’re a family,” he said. “Everyone on the team had each other’s backs, and that’s what made it possible to continue. It was a tough period, but it helped us grow stronger, both as musicians and as individuals.”

The tour’s rigorous schedule included back-to-back performances in some of the world’s largest arenas, with minimal downtime. Kidman admits that the pressure of keeping up with Meshuggah’s trademark technical precision, combined with the physical exhaustion of long days, was a struggle. However, he credits his bandmates, particularly guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, with helping him push through difficult moments.

The singer also spoke openly about his ongoing efforts to manage his mental health, explaining that the experience ultimately led him to seek therapy and embrace more balanced self-care practices. “Mental health is just as important as physical health,” Kidman said. “As a band, we’ve come to realize that we can’t just focus on the music – we need to take care of ourselves and each other.”

Reflecting on the tour’s impact, Kidman noted, “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it was also one of the most rewarding. The connection we share with our fans is indescribable, and it makes all the struggles worth it.”

The resilience of Meshuggah, both individually and as a collective, has only deepened their fans’ respect and admiration. As they continue to chart new sonic territory, Kidman’s raw honesty about overcoming personal battles has only strengthened the bond between the band and their ever-loyal following.
