- Ohio Defensive Lineman with WVU Legacy to Visit Morgantown
CJ Doggette, a defensive lineman from Ohio, is scheduled to visit West Virginia University (WVU) in the coming days. Doggette has strong familial ties to WVU; his father, Cecil Doggette, was a defensive lineman for the Mountaineers from 1990 to 1991, and his mother was a gymnast at the university.
Initially recruited by WVU’s coaching staff out of high school, Doggette chose to sign with the University of Cincinnati. He held offers from several programs, including Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Pitt, Rutgers, Toledo, and Washington State.
After redshirting in 2022 and seeing limited action as a redshirt freshman, Doggette transferred to Ohio University. In his single season with the Bobcats, he recorded 33 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Doggette’s visit to Morgantown underscores WVU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its defensive line through the transfer portal. His family connections to the university may play a significant role in his decision-making process as he evaluates his options for the upcoming season.
The Mountaineers have been active in the transfer market, seeking to bolster their roster with experienced players. Doggette’s potential addition could provide a boost to WVU’s defensive front, given his productive season at Ohio University and his familiarity with the program’s legacy through his parents.
As the transfer portal continues to influence college football rosters nationwide, WVU’s recruitment of players like Doggette highlights the importance of both talent and personal connections in building a competitive team. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if Doggette’s visit results in a commitment to the Mountaineers.
