In a surprising turn of events, forward Patrick Suemnick has announced his return to West Virginia University (WVU) for the 2025 college basketball season. Suemnick, who spent two seasons with the Mountaineers before transferring to Oklahoma State in 2024, is set to rejoin his former team as a graduate transfer.

The 6’8”, 225-pound forward initially joined WVU in 2022 and appeared in 53 games over two seasons. Known for his high energy and versatility on the court, Suemnick played an integral role in WVU’s frontcourt during his tenure. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 54% from the field.

After a year with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, where he further developed his skills, Suemnick decided to return to Morgantown, citing his strong connection to the WVU program and community. “West Virginia has always felt like home to me,” Suemnick said in a statement. “I’m excited to reunite with my teammates and coaches and help this team achieve great things in 2025.”

WVU head coach Josh Eilert expressed enthusiasm about Suemnick’s return, emphasizing the forward’s leadership and experience. “Patrick brings a level of maturity and toughness that will elevate our team,” Eilert said. “He knows our system, and his familiarity with the program will be a tremendous asset as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

Suemnick’s return bolsters WVU’s frontcourt depth, providing the team with a seasoned player capable of making an immediate impact. As the Mountaineers aim for a strong 2025 campaign, Suemnick’s decision to return could prove pivotal in their pursuit of success in the Big 12 Conference.
