Rob Dukes: “With me Gary Holt, Lee Altus, Jack Gibson, Tom Hunting, we can Still never make it in exodus Without Steve “Zetro” Souza…

In a recent interview, former Exodus frontman **Rob Dukes** made a surprising admission about the band’s legacy and its defining sound. Dukes, who fronted Exodus from 2005 to 2014, reflected on his time with the group and acknowledged the irreplaceable role of longtime vocalist **Steve “Zetro” Souza**.

“With me, Gary Holt, Lee Altus, Jack Gibson, and Tom Hunting, we can still never make it in Exodus without Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza,” Dukes stated. “He’s an essential part of what makes this band sound like Exodus.”

Dukes’ tenure in Exodus was marked by a heavier, more aggressive vocal style compared to Souza’s signature thrash delivery. While some fans embraced the change, others felt the classic Exodus sound was missing. In 2014, Souza rejoined the band, replacing Dukes and helping Exodus return to a more traditional thrash approach.

Though Dukes has been critical of his departure in the past, his recent comments indicate a deep respect for what Souza brings to the table. His statement also highlights the unique chemistry between Exodus’ core lineup, particularly with **Gary Holt**, the band’s primary songwriter and driving force.

Exodus has seen numerous lineup changes over the decades, with members coming and going. However, Holt and Souza have repeatedly proven to be the backbone of the band’s identity. Dukes’ words suggest that even if he were to return, the band’s success would still be tied to Souza’s presence.

For now, Exodus continues forward with Souza as their frontman, ensuring the band remains a dominant force in the thrash metal scene. Dukes, meanwhile, remains active in music and maintains his own legacy within the Exodus story.
