In a heartfelt announcement that has left fans of heavy metal legends Iron Maiden emotional, drummer Nicko McBrain has officially stated that he will be stepping back from the rigorous demands of the band’s extensive touring lifestyle. McBrain, who joined Iron Maiden in 1982, has been a cornerstone of the band’s sound and success, providing powerful rhythms on some of their most iconic albums, including Piece of Mind, Powerslave, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

McBrain’s decision was revealed during a public statement on December 9, 2024. He expressed gratitude to fans and his Iron Maiden family while sharing his reasons for stepping back. “The relentless travel and the physical toll of touring have been weighing on me for a while now,” McBrain said. “After over four decades of living this incredible life, it feels like the right time to prioritize my health and family.”

At 72 years old, McBrain has had an illustrious career, drumming on over 15 studio albums with Iron Maiden and performing on countless world tours. His technical brilliance, unique flair, and charismatic presence have earned him recognition as one of the greatest drummers in rock and metal history.
