A Champions League triumph would be the perfect way for Rangers to make a bold statement as they try to recover

from a dismal end to the Scottish Premiership season.

Rangers transfer news

It’s all change at Ibrox this summer, as Philippe Clement begins to make his mark on the current Rangers squad,

bidding farewell to the likes of Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Borna Barisic, as well as John Lundstram. The former

Sheffield United midfielder had been in negotiations over a new contract,

but is now set to leave as a free agent this summer in a frustrating blow for the Gers.

Nevertheless, Rangers did not lose any time in adding Brazilian left-back Jefte to the roster to take Barisic’s spot.

This summer, Clement hopes that the left-back is the first of several names to be called in.

Those at Ibrox appear to be focusing on replacing Lundstram now that they have replaced Barisic, one player who

has left. Rangers are eager to get Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this summer, and the Premier League winners

are prepared to pay the midfielder’s rumored £150,000 weekly salary in order to get him out on loan in the

upcoming months, according to Graeme Bailey for HITC.

Phillips, of course, didn’t exactly market himself well during a loan spell at West Ham United, having struggled for

form, but that doesn’t take away from his Champions League-winning status in the middle of the park. If Rangers

can first seal a deal then help the midfielder return to his best form, then they will arguably have one of the most

talented players in the Scottish Premiership.

“Excellent” Phillips would be an upgrade on Lundstram

Even if it’s simple to highlight Phillips’ shortcomings, he is still a player who can dominate both on and off the ball in

the middle of the park. His career was slowed by a period of inactivity at Manchester City, but he should be able to

shake off any ring rust following a forgettable term at West Ham, so monitor him in the months ahead.

Rangers will need to move swiftly to get his signature, though, as Everton and Celtic are also rumored to be keen.

Although there are risks involved, the Gers should make every effort to secure this trade this summer if City is willing

to pay Philipps’ salary. By bringing in the England international, they would be adding an upgrade with a wealth of

trophy-winning experience in addition to replacing Lundstram.
