In a shocking turn of events, Xavier Johnson, one of the most influential players on the Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball team, has announced he will be leaving the program ahead of the 2025 season. Johnson, a senior guard, made the announcement through his social media accounts, citing personal reasons for his decision to part ways with the team.

Johnson’s departure marks the end of an era for the Hoosiers. Since joining the team in 2020, he has been an integral part of Indiana’s backcourt, known for his leadership, scoring ability, and excellent court vision. Over the past seasons, he helped steer the team through several thrilling victories and played a pivotal role in Indiana’s success in the Big Ten Conference.

As the team’s starting point guard, Johnson averaged 11.4 points and 5.3 assists per game last season, quickly becoming a fan favorite for his intensity and competitive spirit. His aggressive playing style and ability to make clutch plays during critical moments solidified him as one of the Hoosiers’ standout players.

Indiana head coach Mike Woodson expressed gratitude for Johnson’s contributions, praising his dedication and effort during his time with the Hoosiers. “Xavier has been a tremendous asset to this program, and we respect his decision. We thank him for his hard work and wish him the best moving forward,” Woodson said in a statement.

With Johnson’s departure, the Hoosiers will need to find new leadership and direction in their backcourt. Trey Galloway and Jalen Hood-Schifino, who have both seen significant playing time, are expected to take on larger roles in the upcoming season. Hoosier Nation will now look to see how the team adapts and rebuilds after losing one of its key

players.
