With the 2025 NFL Draft fast approaching, speculation continues to swirl around the New York Giants and their potential plans at quarterback. Despite making several additions during the offseason, the Giants remain open to drafting a future franchise QB, and one name has emerged as a potential target: Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.
According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Dart is firmly on New York’s radar and could be a candidate for a trade-up move on draft night.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll is reportedly “high on” Dart, possibly more so than any other quarterback prospect outside of Cam Ward.
Daboll, known for valuing toughness and leadership in his quarterbacks, is said to be particularly impressed with Dart’s gritty playing style and competitive edge—traits that align with his offensive philosophy.
“Jaxson Dart is a name to watch for the Giants as a trade-up option on Thursday,” Hughes wrote. “Sources I touched base with said he’s someone Brian Daboll is high on — most out of QBs other than Cam Ward.”
Although the Giants currently hold the third overall pick in the first round, Dart isn’t expected to be selected that early. Instead, the team could look to make a strategic move later in the draft. New York also owns the 34th overall pick, the second selection in the second round, which could serve as valuable trade capital to move back into the first round and grab Dart before other QB-needy teams have a chance.
Still, the Giants won’t be alone in their interest. Other teams could be eyeing Dart as a potential Day 1 or early Day 2 selection, meaning any attempt by New York to trade up for the Ole Miss signal-caller could require an aggressive approach. The front office will need to weigh the value of Dart’s potential against the cost of giving up additional assets.
Interestingly, much of the early buzz connecting the Giants to other top quarterback prospects, such as Shedeur Sanders, has reportedly cooled. In December, Sanders was widely speculated to be a top target for New York, but recent reports suggest that interest has significantly diminished.
As Thursday night’s draft draws closer, all eyes will be on the Giants’ war room. With lingering questions about the team’s long-term solution at quarterback, a bold move for Jaxson Dart could signal that Brian Daboll and the front office have found their guy—and are ready to make the leap.
