In a significant boost to Cincinnati’s Madisonville neighborhood, Reds General Manager Nick Krall has donated $4.7 million to fund the renovation of Madisonville Field. This initiative is part of the Reds Community Fund’s ongoing efforts to revitalize local sports facilities and provide better opportunities for youth engagement.
Project Overview
Madisonville Field, a central hub for local sports, has undergone a comprehensive transformation. The renovation includes the installation of a new synthetic infield, which will reduce weather-related cancellations and make the field accessible to players of all ages. Additional upgrades encompass new dugouts, a modern backstop, and enhanced fencing, all aimed at improving the overall playing experience.
Community Impact
The renovation project has garnered widespread support from various community leaders. Reds President and CEO Phil Castellini emphasized the importance of such upgrades, stating that synthetic infields are “a game changer” for youth baseball and softball. He highlighted that the enhanced facility will not only increase playing time but also serve as a versatile space for various community activities.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval echoed these sentiments, praising the Reds’ commitment to investing in the community and creating opportunities for youth through sports. Longtime community leader Lornie Starkey, who helped establish the Madisonville Braves program in 1984, attended the ceremony and expressed his gratitude, noting the profound impact the renovation has on the community.
