May 1, 2025 – Tokyo — Legendary synth-rock pioneers Depeche Mode have announced the release of a new feature-length concert film titled Depeche Mode: M, capturing the band’s powerful live performance at Tokyo Dome on June 15, 2025.
The film, directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frias (I’m No Longer Here), offers a cinematic take on the band’s Memento Mori tour, blending stunning stage visuals with intimate, behind-the-scenes moments. The Tokyo concert, part of a highly anticipated return to Japan, sold out within hours and drew tens of thousands of fans from across Asia.
According to the band’s team, M isn’t just a concert film — it’s an emotional journey. It explores the existential themes of the Memento Mori album through the lens of Japanese culture’s deep relationship with impermanence and remembrance.

“We felt something special in Tokyo,” said frontman Dave Gahan in a statement. “It wasn’t just the energy from the crowd — it was the atmosphere, the reverence. That night deserved to be remembered.”
The film marks Depeche Mode’s first major visual release since the passing of founding member Andy Fletcher in 2022. Memento Mori, released in March 2023, was the band’s 15th studio album and their first as a duo. The record was praised for its dark, reflective tone and became one of their most critically acclaimed releases in years.
Depeche Mode: M will premiere in select theaters worldwide later this year. A streaming release is expected to follow.
