Although Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have been engaged since December 2024, Selena prefers not to use the term “fiancé” when talking about him. In a recent appearance on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, the 32-year-old singer and actress admitted she finds the label “so strange,” often choosing instead to call him her partner or simply refer to him by name. Occasionally, she even slips and calls him her boyfriend, acknowledging they’ve moved past that stage.
Benny Blanco, 37, echoed her sentiments, describing “fiancé” as “the worst word in the world,” and mentioning that he frequently refers to Selena as his wife.
When asked about the dynamics in their relationship, Selena said they share a fairly equal partnership, though she confessed she may require a bit more from the relationship emotionally.
Benny also opened up about being truly ready for commitment when he met Selena, noting that he had created a clear list of what he wanted in a life partner — someone mature, kind, passionate, and within his age range. He emphasized that Selena matched everything on that list.
Selena, who rose to fame on Wizards of Waverly Place and now stars in Only Murders in the Building, shared that what matters most to her is being recognized for her strong work ethic and how she treats others, noting that she cares deeply and empathizes with people on a profound level.
