Nordin Kapic is set to take his college basketball career to new heights. After beginning his journey at the Division II level, the 6-foot-8 forward is ready to showcase his skills on a much larger stage, as he has committed to play for Lamont Paris and the South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball team. This move marks a significant step in Kapic’s development as he transitions from UC-San Diego, where he made a name for himself, to the prestigious SEC conference, known for its fierce competition and high-caliber programs.
Kapic’s commitment to South Carolina, announced on Friday, makes him the sixth transfer addition to the Gamecocks’ roster this spring. With one year of eligibility remaining, Kapic will look to bring his experience and versatility to a program that is aiming to build a strong, competitive roster. With the addition of transfers, returnees, and incoming freshmen, the Gamecocks now have a full 12-player roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The Austrian-born forward had a standout season at UC-San Diego, helping lead the Tritons to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Kapic’s role in that success was undeniable, starting in all 33 games for the team in the 2024-25 season. Averaging 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, Kapic’s contributions were integral to the Tritons’ success. His offensive prowess was on full display in a memorable game against CSU Bakersfield, where he exploded for a season-high 25 points. Kapic continued to shine in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 15 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in the team’s game against Michigan, further proving his ability to perform on the national stage.
Before his time at UC-San Diego, Kapic spent two seasons at Division II Lynn College in Florida, where he developed into one of the most dominant players in the Sunshine State Conference. During his freshman year, he was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023. In his sophomore season, Kapic took his game to another level, earning first-team all-conference honors. He led the conference in scoring with an impressive 19.3 points per game, including a remarkable 42-point outing against Tampa. Kapic also proved to be a force on the boards, ranking fifth in the conference in rebounding with an average of 9.2 rebounds per game during the 2023-24 season.
Kapic’s decision to transfer to South Carolina is a significant move not only for the Gamecocks but for the player himself. After excelling at both the Division II and Division I levels, Kapic’s game is well-rounded, with his ability to score, rebound, and defend standing out. His versatility as a forward will provide South Carolina with a strong presence on both ends of the floor. His experience in high-pressure games, like the NCAA Tournament, will also be an invaluable asset to the Gamecocks as they continue to build a competitive team.
Now, with one final year of eligibility left, Kapic will join a South Carolina program that is looking to make strides in the SEC. The Gamecocks, under the leadership of head coach Lamont Paris, have shown promise, and with Kapic’s addition, they are poised to further strengthen their roster. The combination of transfers, returnees, and new recruits has created an exciting new look for the Gamecocks, and Kapic is expected to play a key role in the team’s pursuit of success next season.
With his international background, extensive experience, and undeniable talent, Nordin Kapic is ready to take on the next chapter of his college basketball career at South Carolina.
